Where to Find Prague’s Best Antique Shops & Vintage Boutiques

Prague with its sunning sites and the labyrinth of streets hold endless amounts of stories to be told. Scattered throughout the old city are the hidden spots where can you find relicts belonging to the past. From medieval times to the years when Prague was still a part of Czechoslovakia, these shops are full of hidden treasures rich with history. Whether you are a lover of books, a collector of antiquities, or just a tourist looking for a unique souvenir to bring home from your Prague trip, we have created a list of some of our favorite antique shops, used book stores, and vintage boutiques that might interest you!

Bazar U Medvěda

A small shop lies across Sophie’s Hostel and next to Miss Sophie’s Hotel is like a cave full of treasures – a true “bear’s den”, as the name of the shops suggests. Once you step inside, forget about order. Be ready to embrace and explore the charming chaos that reigns here. At U Medvěda you can find literally everything – from pictures in heavy frames (or just frames without pictures) to military insignias dating back to the times of USSR, and maps of Czechoslovakia to vintage sunglasses that your grandmother might have worn in the days of her youth. The apogee of it all is a box with unspecified trinkets that stands in the middle of the shop waiting for you to plunge your hand into the pile and uncover treasures it conceals.

Antique Bazar on Ječná

Those who prefer more stylish and curated antique shops, would relish the Antique Bazar. Located on the lively street of Ječná,a couple of minutes´ walk from Sophie’s, lies this treasure chest. Despite its relatively small space, the shop offers a large variety of curiosities to choose from. Fragile statuettes, jewelry, old cameras as well as ceramic and porcelain plates, cups, kettles – the list can be continued. The shop also sells and repairs old watches. If your watch will suddenly stop working, you can ask the magician-like owner of the place for help.

Aurora – Knihkupectví & Antikvariát

This special shop located in a rather artistic district of Prague – Národní, is one of the many charming book shops in the area. Aurora is a large; consisting of several departments it offers a rich assortment for lovers of nostalgic culture. Music lovers, will likely find something to suit their taste in the collection of vinyls, music sheets and posters. Bookworms can entertain themselves wandering amongst the shelves, packed with books from all over the world, and the artists and collectors can enjoy the collection of painting and antique furniture hailing from another era. Also available are small souvenirs such as a design notebook or a nice postcard to bring back home from Prague.

Drakkaria Pagan Shop

If medieval times is your favourite period in history, you have come to the right city. Drakkaria “pagan” shop is located at Rašínovo nábřeží, not far from Sophie’s, and right near famous Náplavka. It’s windows full of medieval relics this shop is difficult not to notice. Whatever brings you here – interest in old Slavic amulets or knights armour, a search for a Viking sword, a fancy-looking “Bohemia” T-shirt or a bottle of mead – you will not leave disappointed. Drakkaria is like a historical museum in miniature – with the difference that the entrance here is free and the exhibits can be actually purchased and taken home.

Vintage Shops of Vinohrady

Finally, if you are staying in the close vicinity of Vinohrady – one of the most vibrant and expat-oriented district of Prague, don’t miss a chance to explore vintage thrift shops that are spread around this area. You have plenty of choice – from classic second hand shops like Prague Thrift Store to curated vintage shops such as MINTFifty-Fifty and Boho Vintage Concept Store. There are several other’s you may stumble upon walking from Miss Sophie’s (although they can be hit or miss). You never know where you might find something special. Apart from vintage clothes, shoes and accessories, some of these shops also sell pottery and home decor items.
